Online OPEN Competition

During these challenging “new normal” times, MIBC is proud to introduce you to a new Online OPEN Competition.

Our aim is to unite young artists from the around the world and inspire them to share their art form in an atmosphere of discovery and collaboration. Our objective is to help them grow through quality dance education and a fair and professionally organized virtual competition.

This MIBC Online OPEN Competition will be different. It will be entirely online and include interactive masterclasses that follow our vision for helping each dancer as an individual.

The Competition will be judged by a renowned jury panel and will include live and interactive Master Classes with our prestigious faculty via Zoom.

The competition will take place on Eastern Standard Time (EST). Please make sure to check your time zone. Competition Schedule will be published on September 1st, 2020

INDIVIDUAL Category

INDIVIDUAL Category Participants must complete and submit the corresponding Registration forms. There are four age divisions.  All fees include one master class.

DIVISION 1: AGES 9 TO 11 – REGISTRATION FEE: $70
Participants in this division must UPLOAD 2 VIDEOS: one classical variation SOLO, selected from our list of approved repertoire, and one contemporary solo.  Participants in this Division are allowed to compete with or without pointe shoes.

DIVISION 2: AGES 12 TO 14 – REGISTRATION FEE: $70
Participants in this division must UPLOAD two solos: one classical variation, selected from our list of approved repertoire, and one contemporary solo.

DIVISION 3: AGES 15 TO 18 – REGISTRATION FEE: $90
Participants in this division must UPLOAD three solos: two classical variations, selected form our list of approved repertoire, and one contemporary solo.

DIVISION 4: AGES 19 TO 24 – REGISTRATION FEE: $90
Participants in this division must UPLOAD three solos: two classical variations, selected from our list of approved repertoire, and one contemporary solo.

 

ENSEMBLE Category

The Ensemble category is open to participants between the ages of 9 to 24.  The ensemble’s choreographer, coach, or representative must complete and submit the corresponding Registration forms.  There is one fee for all age divisions.  The ensemble must include a minimum of 3 dancers and a maximum of 16.  It can be either classical or contemporary in style.
 

DIVISION 1:  AGES 9 TO 11 - REGISTRATION FEE: $45

(UP TO 10 PARTICPANTS. 11 OR MORE $65 per Ensemble)
 
DIVISION 2:
AGES 12 TO 17 – REGISTRATION FEE: $45

(UP TO 10 PARTICIPANTS. 11 OR MORE $65 per Ensemble)

DIVISION 3: AGES 18 TO 24 – REGISTRATION FEE: $45

(UP TO 10 PARTICIPANTS. 11 OR MORE $65 per Ensemble)

*Ensemble pieces:

 •  3 – 5 people should be no longer than 2 minutes and 30 seconds max 

 •  6 – 9 people should be no longer than 3 minutes max

 •  10 + people should be no longer than 4 minutes max

**Participants in the ensemble groups that are not competing individually are required to reserve their spot in the Master Classes of their choice by making a payment of $25.

PAS DE DEUX Category

The Pas de Deux category is open to participants between the ages of 15 to 24.  The couple must complete the corresponding Registration forms, along with a $90 Registration Fee.  The couple must UPLOAD two Pas de Deux: one classical (including adagio, both variations, and coda) and one contemporary.  Classical Pas de Deux must be selected from our list of approved repertoire.

AGES 13 TO 14 – REGISTRATION FEE: $45 PER DANCER Competing in the pas de deux

DIVISION 2:

AGES 15 TO 18 – REGISTRATION FEE: $45 PER DANCER Competing in the pas de deux

DIVISION 3:

AGES 19 TO 24 – REGISTRATION FEE: $45 PER DANCER Competing in the pas de deux

DEADLINE Registration 

August 25, 2020 - All videos must be uploaded to MIBC's website. Video submissions can be from ANY other competition, including MIBC. You may also submit any other video of a performance or rehearsal. Routine times must adhere to the times set in MIBC's rules and regulations. All entries must have been performed within the last 12 months.

Entry Fees MIBC OPEN

Your entry fee includes:
- Judges critique per routine
- Electronic certificates to the overall winners
- Classical Ballet Master Class online
- Admission to register to the final MIBC on January 2021

 

Individual Solo Category

 $70 for Division 1-2

 $90 for Division 3-4 


Pas de Deux Category

 $45 per dancer competing


Ensemble Category

 $45 for the entire group and up to 10 dancers 
 $65 for the entire group - 11 or more dancers

Contemporary Master Class $ 25

Full entry to MIBC 2021

Winners will receive an Electronic Award Certificate. Awards and cash prizes are subject to change based on the amount of registrants entered in each division. Please note that no physical awards will be presented or mailed. Each dancer will receive scores and an email with their virtual awards.

RULES MIBC ONLINE Open

All performances will be evaluated using the MIBC video judging system and scoring criteria. Each performance will be adjudicated by three of our MIBC jury panelists at the time.

Judges will score each variation out of 100. The final score will be out of 300. All registered performers will receive the jury’s commentaries and adjudications.

For those competitors entering in more than one division (solo or pas de deux), please note that the highest-scoring variation for that competitor’s division will be considered for award and placement qualification. A competitor may also participate in one or more ensembles.

Time limits for Variation:
Solo variations up to 2:45 mins
Pas de Deux  Classical  regular time - Contemporary: up to 6:00 mins
Ensemble (10+ dancers) up to 4:00 mins
